A DFS examination of the complete contents of an e-mail message will usually reveal the path an email traveled over the Internet or corporate intranet to reach its destination. This can provide the e-mail’s origin, which may be traced to an ISP (Internet Service Provider) or a corporate network. Often, the information will include sufficient data to link the e-mail to a specific computer, device or user from which it was sent.
